Most Americans have this wierd denial thing goin where they think: if you're not huge in the states you're not huge at all. Most Americans really have trouble understanding that America isn't the most important or the best country in the world for that matter.

Also, you can't expect everyone not to know that. It's not like every person goes out and scouts out information on whether a music artist was a one hit wonder or not, they are just speaking from what they know.
I personally would say that Joan Osborne was a one hit wonder. She sung the song "One of Us"
Lind it's nothing to take personally, second of all I wasn't referring to anyone in particular (even the guy finti was talking to) which makes me think "why did you respond to it personally". I just think THE PEEPS OF AMERICA should re-evaluate how they think and why they think certain things. Keep an open mind y'know. Media and the culture are slowly getting rid of independent abstract thought and the like. It's difficult to understand what I'm talking about unless you open your eyes to it.

Hey, perhaps we need to clarify what is meant by a one hit wonder. My nomination was made from a point of view, he only had one hit here so to me he would qualify. I certainly do not think that the US is the absolute center of the universe (far from it) and I do not mean to offend anyone, I just offered an opinion.
Dexy's Midnight Runners are probably best known in America as one of new wave's ultimate one-hit wonders, thanks to their 1982 number-one hit Come on Eileen (1982). In the U.K. and the rest of Europe, however, they made a greater impression on the public consciousness with their frequent changes in sound, wardrobe, and personnel.
Their first hit came with Geno in 1980
This is a class example of an artist that made a bigger name for himself in Europe rather than USA, even if Come On Eileen was a smash hit there as well.
At present date we have another artist that is huge in Europe and the rest of the world except USA; that is Robin Williams. He is considered as the worls biggest pop icon even if he havent broken the US market yet.
I started the one hit wonder thread for people to post artists who they think had only one hit, and it doesnt matter if they had one hit in a specific country or globally, because not everyone is up to speed on the music charts in other countries. If it turns out that one particular artist may have had one hit in the US, but others in Europe, then hey! we learned something new today.
