As for Neo: Why could Smith beat him? First of all Smith has gained “The eyes of the Oracle”. Please note in the apartment-scene fight, how Smith is able to dodge almost every single move Neo makes. He can predict every intent. Only when striking from emptiness dos Neo hit.
Neo already knew, when he left with Trin onboard the Logos, that he may not come back. That he might either die or loose. He’s got nothing left to live for. Fighting Smith is embracing Death.

im just saying that he got next to none hits in during the finale. basically when it comes down to it,the final fight sucked(in my opinion) it was short, way to DRAGON BALL Z'ish and neo was getting hurt the whole time, it really failed to get me as amped as the burly brawl.
