This one always got my neerves as well.
On the idea that Radio 2 uses the BBC news service, I very much rdoubt if they said something so inaccurate, as no other part of the BBC said. Qhat they said was that 'Jedi Knight' had become an officially categorised answer to the relgion question on the census,. That does NOT make it a religion- as has been pointed out (including by the BBC), these people have no power to do that! All they can do is say waht people answer, and that does not make it so! By the same token if enough people say their ethnic origin is 'Martian', it does not make Martian a real life ethnic origin, it just means people said it did, and the census would record that people had said it.
That would actually be illegal. It is illegal to give misleading info on the census except, apparently, for the religion bit, because it would be too complex, I think.
So anyway, massive agreement with RC here, there is no chance at all of 'Jedism' being a real religion here.
