two words "memory charms"
But there are so many things to list.
1. Harry and Ginny get together in book 6 (hand hold in movie).
2. Lucius Malfoy's house gets searched (he gives Borgin some Dark objects in book 2).
3. Hand of Glory helps Malfoy get the Death Eaters into Hogwarts. (In Borgin and Burkes in book and movie 2)
4. "Dumbledore will never be gone, not as long as those who remain are loyal to him." (Movie 2) And Dumbledore dies. Also Harry says practically that same thing to Rufus Scrimgeour (sp?) in book 6.
5. The Vanishing Cabinet. Again, helps the Death Eaters into Hogwarts. (In Borgin and Burkes in movie and book 2)
6. One of the (suspected) Horcruxes is something of Ravenclaw or Gryfindor, and Dumbledore suspects the sword is a Horcrux. But probably not, because that does play a big role in book/movie 2: it kills the basilisk, which has been going around Hogwarts petrifying Muggleborns.
There is more, I'm sure.

Ok.
We were introduced to the idea of memory charms and memory modification in CoS.
My theory is that Tom Riddle's mother Never Died but modified the memory of those who attended her at the birth of Tom Riddle.
How was she described in HBP? Bedraggled, down on her luck, worn out, no condition to care for a baby.
What proof do we have that she died? The memory of the woman at the orphanage who was there when she gave birth. Did she point Dumbledore to a grave? Did she say "oh by the way, here are her personal belongings"? No, all she said was she died after naming the baby.
Voldemort's mother is alive and in my opinion will play an important part in defeating him.
She simply did a memory charm on the staff members attending her at the birth of Tom Riddle and left her son where she knew he would be safe and looked after.
andyb44... I'm lovin the idea's! I also think that Harry is in the direct bloodline of Godric Gryffindor... His parents his in GODRIC'S HOLLOW and in book 2 Dumbledore says 'only a true gryffindor could have pulled that out of the hat'...
Also I think this is why Voldemort only wanted to kill James and Harry and not Lily. Lily was only killed because she refused to give Harry away. Remember, Gryffindor was Slytherins greatest enemy. Voldemort is the only remaining relative of Slytherin and so he would want the only remaining relatives of Gryffindor to die!
