This is my first time reading them

I was reading the first book in the Thomas Covenant series, but I couldn't make it past the first half. It was terrible. Utterly tactless and awful. The main character is so emo, it makes me want to gouge my eyes out and the reactions by the other characters to a certain thing he did was so... pathetic! My advice is to stay as far away from that book at possible!
