Well I was expecting more. The movie is full of clicheés and some of the dialog tries a bit to hard. Granted I'm a little tired of the whole "going to war but living (despite every friend dieing in it) and returning to the girl" plot!
The landscape is great but the photography is kinda weak.
It starts off well, the explosion scene looks great and left me wanting more cool war scenes but that didnt happen. After that the movie slows down! I like the way Anthony Minghella tells a story with the going back and forth, and the editing is great, so thats probably what made me enjoy the movie. I did enjoy it. The casting is great, specially Renée (she sure surprised me!). She brought a lot to the movie. And so did Philip Seymour Hoffman. I like the known actors showing up to do small parts. It makes it more memorable. Oh I like the little stories (every new person they meet) thing Nicole Kidman as played this part before but she has good moments. I just think her and Jude Law have no chemistry so it makes the story a bit weak.
It's worth seeing but it's nothing new.
I didn't expect anything from this movie. I just went to see it because of Nicole Kidman and Renee Zellwegger. But this movie surprised me a lot. I'm so glad that there weren't too many war scenes because I'm sick of it already. The movie is beautiful and cruel. It shows how war affects people lives. I was so pitty for those people who were killed by Teage and his gang, so I was very glad when Ada clobbered him with a stick 😂 I like Ada fighting with a cock 😆 poor townswoman Ada without Ruby's help wouldn't have done anything, their friedship was so nice. I like Ruby and her father line.
