Maybe he/she was just trying to start a debate, and got off on a completely wrong track.

Basically, I just wanted to bring up the point that we consider those individuals who believe they are trapped in a 'virtual world' to be incoherent or essentially insane. There is no way to know what is 'real' and what is virtual or conceived. What is beyond this world, if anything, is unknown. Thus, we are all ****ed and stuck where we're stuck. I am OK.
Everyone has their own beliefs.
These beliefs cannot be argued.
Because of "how do you know?" questions, if anyone questions any belief and has no evidence to back it up its always the "how do you know?" but in turn how does the one with the belief in question know in the first place, its belief, discussing it is useless, its a sub-concious matter.

Ok, movie or not. I don't believe the Matrix is real (not like in the movie, anyway) because if it was real we might have had better lives and the world that would then be pulled over eyes would also seem better...which of course it isn't....we suck...we are unable to look after our planet.
But even if we lived in a Matrix - like in the movie -we wouldn't know about it. The machines would just rewrite the code or eliminate the entities who think it up.
The truth is that we will nevr know if the Matrix is real or not. It's like the question "is there really a god". You won't really know until you're dead. You wont; really know if there is a Matrix unless some gets unplugged, or sees someone take over another body like an agent. That reminds me, the last 5 days are a blur to me; it's like someone took over my body. Red pill time!

The Matrix could – in theory – be real, and we’d never know. It’s just done so extremely well, that it never messes up. Scientist only measure stuff from deep space, that is coherent with theories – for example – This program would have to be of such a complexity it’s staggering.
Currently we do not KNOW if there is intelligent life on other planets. But it’s a question that CAN be answered one day, if we manage to get a visit or utilise wormholes, warpfields or other funky gravity-technologies.
My point is, that I see NO inconsistencies in the world around me, that would make me THINK it’s not real. No scientists raises a finger and goes, hurm, cough, something is not RIGHT here… Sure the machines could’ve made a program SO complex and so coherent we’d never know. And then – I could say – well, why bother worrying? I’d NEVER find out.
There is no way to prove or disprove it.
There is as far as intelligent life elsewhere goes.

For the people who can't get enough of the "virtual" possiblities. Read a book called "The Caverns of Socrates". I don't remember the author's name but it is relavent to the discussion. It theorizes on the possibilites of what is "real", just like the Matrix movies. Just wanted everyone to know this theory has been debated since the time of Socrates.
