Official Thread for Breathing Trailer

If Yoda was a puppet in the OT then they should keep him a puppet for the PT. Same with Jabba. You can use CGI to make him move but why have they changed to CGI for everything? It costs more and takes more time and I don't think it looks as good as a puppet.😕

Didn't look any worse than the puppet to me, and they can do more with it this way.

A puppet will always look more real because it IS real. It's there, on set. CGI should only be used to create things that's impossible to create any other way. IMHO

talking about skin; color and texture I think

A puppet may be real, but that does not make it look better by default! When it comes to special effects, CGI can create things that look MUCH better than puppewts.

I judge them, on individual cases, and I think the Yoda CGI is at least the equal of the puppet in looks, and it can do more.

I don't agree with that at all. Yoda puppet looks better than the CGI one (in the shot we've seen), and the Jabba puppet looks much more real than the CGI one.

If this was a completley new character then yes use CGI if it's easier. But Yoda is one of the most recognizable characters there is. Everyone is going to look at it and ask "is it better than the puppet?" and I don't think CGI can match the puppet.

But then I prefer the stop-motion of the Tauntons in ESB to the CGI creatures.

Hmm. I think a lot of people were impressed by that Yoda shot in the trialer; certainly all my freinds were.

But more importantly, GL is pretty certain that he simply cannot do with a puppet what he needs done with Yoda, and I am sure he knows what he is talking about...

I never said he didn't. But by changing the look of such an established and loved character he's risking a lot. The Yoda puppet had a charm that CGI doesn't.

And can you imagine watching the films in sequence? Ep1 puppet. Episode 2 CGI. Episode 3 CGI. Episode 5 and 6 puppet again. I don't think it will work.

I think that's a problem he has in a large amount of areas actually.

Well, I guess we'll see how it looks as a whole before too long...

the puppet gives him a more old, stiff look...
BTW: I thought that there was a cgi Yoda in TPM...

it's known that GL said some time ago that he wanted as much as possible of the film to be computer animated, i think it was when TPM came out. so he likes CGI therefore more and more stuff get computer animated, when he has the possibility to do that. fine by me really.

well about the skin color of Watto; I thought there was a pic of him, and he stood in the shadow...

Remember, Episode II is about 25 years before ESB. Yoda can age. He can lose hair and grow hair. He doesn't have to look the same in all of the movies even if he's around 900 years old.

...yeah very true, yoda ages very slowly, but that doesn't mean his Hair or facial features need to be the same each time he apears in SW

I'm just hoping he loses it all by the end of EP3..

The more I watch the trailer the more I like what they've done to Yoda. But I'd still prefer a puppet.

well, I'm still looking at the rain-scene.
The only thing to say: because Fett's suit is white, and because of the thunder, it looks strange

"This is not good"🙁 Or maybe it's just because we haven't got used to it.

we are used to see it in green, perhaps that's the problem

I mean all the CGI. I think it takes time to get used to.
