I, Robot

I wanted to hate this movie but it was pretty good.
And I don't think it was mindless.

8/10 for me. i really enjoyed the movie,i don't think it was bad at all,not perfect. But one of the better movies i've seen this year.

"But, c'mon. The movie did require more than a pulse
and eyeballs."

Not for me, it didn't. It required no thinking of any kind.

OK, first I'll say the negative:

- Will Smith constantly taking that bloody top off. Who showers like that? Why does he shower like a porn star - hand on the wall, all angst like? Angst doesn't come out during a shower. Jeez.

- Product Placement. Nowhere near as bad as the "She likes to listen to her MP3's during battle - buy an iPod kids!" from Blade Trinity, but it was still annoying. The fact that there were a lot of conveniently placed products, with excuses like "they are classic 2004" - the JVC player and the trainers both did this. It was just a little blatant - although things like FedEx I can tolerate because those sort of things bring meaning to the world. The world is still consumer and brand driven in the future - and you'd expect to see some brand names around. Back To The Future (classic movies) did the product placement in a similar way - it's good because it makes it evident that it's still Earth, only in the future.

- The concept of the future seemed like a "unused" one from Minority Report. The spinning cars with balls instead of wheels defy all logic - worse death traps than cars.

- It was a bit too CGI-filled for my tastes.

The good:

- Will Smith was actually NOT annoying. Get this, he didn't say "Now that's what I'm talkin' about" in this movie. It was THAT different.

- The Robot was brilliant. The effects on the facial mechanisms we awe-inspiring. Really good effects when they were subtle. There was a bit too much of "teh explosivions teh r0ck!" - but during emotive scenes the effects were brilliant and the character interaction between the main Robot and Smith was the best CGI-Human interaction I've seen. The first time where a CGI character has some presence among human actors. Screw Jar Jar Binks.

You pretty much have the same good as me. I'm not sure why I did not think the movie rocked. Something lacked, and I'm thinking its the plot line. Overall I thought the movie was alright, I gave it a 7.

movie was better than I thought, but Sonny and his robot buddies were scary freaky looking.

compared to book (like most adaptations), the movie was poor.

as a no brainer popcorn movie, it was alright...

will smith was ok, nothing special.

I thought it was fair....7/10

entertaining....loved the robots though...

I really liked I, Robot. I've heard really bad things and I dont care much for Will Smith so my expectations were really low.

I did however have great faith in the director, the same director who directed Dark City. A Sci/Fi masterpiece.

The special effects in I, Robot were pretty good and the acting all around is pretty fair. The story was interesting and the directing top notch. Its not a terrific movie but by no means is it a bad movie.

The blatant product placement ads (Converse, Audi, etc) were extremely tacky however. 👇

And the robots totally copied off of Björk's music video:

All is Full of Love Video (1999):

Oooh..Chris Cunningham.

I also went in to see I, Robot with low expectations. I ended up being pleasantly surprised.

TEX, I agree that the robots are strikingly similar to the ones in the Bjork vid. Very interesting...

He was paranoid in the movie.

Only had his shirt off once, IRRC, and he'd have to have his hand on the wall to prop himself up, to put his left leg forward, so he isn't exposing his meat and two vegs.

Well that's a nice way of putting it 😛

I thought it was pretty cool. Sure it was corny but it had good action scenes.
