There could be a problem with the DNS server or you don't have a fast enough internet connection or the problem could be because you don't have a router and your modem connected right....

No...we were looking at the status, and flashes up "Cables connected"...."DNS configurations correct"....stuff like that, but the very last thing is "Xbox live not found". We were using Shaw high speed.

maybe you didn't enter the code for Xbox live to set up a gamer tag correctly?

No no no....he didn't even get that far. I thought it was suppost to connect FIRST, then you get your tag and passcode, and THEN yo enter subscription code.
