This one really isn't short but I felt like writing a poem about Eugene
And no, I'm not talking about Stinky I'm talking about the town I live in
This is a place
Where people speak their minds
Without fear of conviction
Where hippies outnumber conservatives
Where clouds cover the sky 7 months out of the year
But who cares?
After all, without rain, where would we be today?
And the summer dawns with renewed golden brilliance
Every June, without fail
Where there is a sense of peace
And of protest
All at the same time
It's a place that can't be explained with words
But only by having grown up here
And having known it
In all its successes,
And all its failures
All its rain
And all its sun
All its joy
And all its sorrow
This is the place that will remain
Unchanged
After all is said and done
And the rest of the world has gone and done itself in
An island of heaven
In a sea of chaos
It's not perfect,
But then, no place is
And I'm glad to have known
My little patch
Of paradise
I realize how exaggerated that sounds, but that's honestly what it's like here... Oddly enough...
