Thursday 11th May 2004: Pirates of the Caribbean 2 Update:
Screenwriter Terry Rossio has just posted the following update on the progress of Pirates of the Caribbean 2 at Wordplayer.com "Ideally, it would go like this: approval of the stories that have been designed over the past four months would come sometime this week, along with the conclusion of extensive and complex negotiations will the principal filmmakers -- for two movies, to be shot back to back, a huge commitment of time, money, and resources.
The screenplay(s) would then be written over the next 8-10 weeks (hah!) which takes us into July. Based on the screenplays (which will continue to be revised) the preproduction on these two movies would take place, which includes location scouting, set design, building ships, negotiations with different countries, casting, special effects tests, and a million othe r things.
If all goes well, principle photography would begin sometime early next year, and proceed for nine months (seems like a long time but we're talking two movies here, which is only 4 and a 1/2 months per movie) We're talking shooting on the water, action, costumes, and shooting for effects, all commonly time consuming stuff.
So that takes us past next summer to late next year. Then comes the post production work -- editing and scoring and effects, etc. Which allows the 1st sequel to be prepped and ready for release in Summer of 2006."
Tuesday 11th May 2004: Pirates of the Caribbean 2 Update:
News reaches us that Keith Richards has confirmed that he WILL play Johnny Depp's characters Dad in Pirates of the Caribbean 2. His role will involve four days of filming so it sounds like it will be little more than a cameo appearance.
Monday 15th March 2004: Pirates of the Caribbean 2 Update:
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has been talking about the Pirates of the Caribbean sequels and has revealed they plan on filming both sequels back to back. But what is really interesting is that Johnny Depp is not yet contracted for the second sequel.
Tuesday 24th February 2004: Pirates of the Caribbean 2 Update:
UK comedian Johnny Vegas has revealed that he will have a part in Pirates of the Caribbean 2.

UK tabloid The Sun has printed a very cool rumour todat, namely that Keith Richards is up for a role as wizened cut-throat pirate! Now if this is true it could be hilarious as it is pretty damned obvious that Depp based his character in the first one on Richards!
Monday 5th January 2004: Pirates of the Caribbean 2 Update:
Orlando Bloom has been talking about Pirates of the Caribbean sequel and by the way he's talking it looks like he will be filming it this summer after he finishes Kingdom of Heaven "I can't cope with short, cold days. In England it gets dark early, so I prefer summer," he says. "I'll be heading back to Caribbean to film with Johnny Depp soon, which is cool. I have no complaints about working in the Caribbean! On the first film they took me out there early and I didn't start shooting my scenes for a while, so I felt like I was on holiday."
Thursday 11th December 2003: Pirates of the Caribbean 2 Update:
Rumours have already started to circulate about the possible title for the sequel to Pirates of the Caribbean. Early word suggests that it could be called Pirates of the Caribbean: Treasures of the Lost Abyss. The Abyss in the title apparently might refer to the first pirate ship which sailed the Caribbean.
Monday 8th December 2003: Pirates of the Caribbean 2 Update:
The sequel to the summer smash Pirates of the Caribbean is set to start filming in January 2005. There was talk of filming two sequels back-to-back but this hasn't been confirmed. Whatever happens the main talent is set to return at least once more, Jerry Bruckheimer, director Gore Verbinski, writers Terry Rossio and Ted Elliott, and stars Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.
Tuesday 21st October 2003: Pirates of the Caribbean 2 & 3 Update:
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl might be followed by
back-to-back sequels shot in one simultaneous production, much like the
Matrix sequels. Sources close to the film say the producers are pondering
the possibility of back-to-back sequels, and talks have begun to secure the
cast should Disney pursue that avenue.
Thursday 15th October 2003: Pirates of the Caribbean 2 Update:
Gore Verbinski has agreed to direct Pirates of the Caribbean 2. Original
writers Terry Rossio and Ted Elliott are back on board to pen the sequel.
Johnny Depp will also reprise his starring role in the movie. Disney had
already made sequel arrangements with key cast members such as Orlando Bloom
and Keira Knightley, although it is uncertain which other cast members will
return.
Thursday 17th July 2003: Pirates of the Caribbean 2 Update:
It was almost inevitable after the first movie's box office success but
Disney have greenlit the sequel to Pirates of the Caribbean already.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer is signed on with Gore Verbinski directing,
Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley have all inked on to star in
the sequel. Writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio are in talks to pen the
sequel.
