Back to the banana...
In an interview Johnny says he likes to hold things when his arms are out of shot, just to confuse people. Maybe he just decided to do that with the 'nana. He says he holds shoes or a banana etc.
Also if he's doing an intense scene, to break the tension, he stuffs things down his trousers like feather dusters. That made me laugh...
