Pheonix doews return in the new x-men "here comes tommorow" story, but I think that that is kind of like an alternate timeline future, and that when they return to the main marvel timeline that jean will still be dead (it is looking more and more like marvel is setting up Emma Frost to be Scott's long time partner from now on-and she is the new headmistress of the institute and all)
New X-Men #114 - 154 : Planet X saga
Since my last comic review was such a glowing success I thought I'd try my hand at a more mainstream book…
I hadn't bought a single issue of any X-book since the end of the John Byrne Chris Claremont run. Yanno - back when Jean Grey died the FIRST time…. However one of my favourite comics writers took over New X-Men and his run on the book has been collected into 3 glorious hardback books - the final volume of which has just been released. I beg you all - if you have any interest in the X-men then you need to pick up Grant Morrisons New X-Men.
As well as writing some of the more outrageous and experimental comics over the last decade Grant also has a rep as being a "reboot" writer. He's taken on the JLA, Animal man, Doom Patrol and then the X-Men and done a similar thing with each book. Taken an existing character or group and somehow managed to strip the dead wood away - find the core idea of what makes the book interesting and unique and then drop - kick the ****er into orbit.
His revamp of the core X-book took all the old existing X-clichés and spun them till you had no idea what was coming next: Everything familiar and yet crazy. Ideas and stories that fit the characters so well that they seem self-evident - you can't help but wonder why nobody ever did this in an X-book before. (For EG - the old "Weapon X" program that created Wolverine - you would think that had been wrung dry : yet all it takes is for Grant to reveal that the "X" in Wolverines "Weapon X" tag stands for the roman numeral 10 - and that Weapons XI and upwards are still around…)
Not to say these stories are in any way predictable - this is Grant we are talking about.. A man who when sales of his Vertigo imprint book The Invisibles were falling suggested to the readers that everybody take part in a global magic spell to boost the sales: and to ensure the correct energy was flowing all the readers had to masturbate at the same time on a given day. Grant is not your normal marvel writer…
40 issues over 3 years collected in 3 juicy volumes - To whet your appetite: this massive story arc story begins (begins mind you) with the cold-blooded murder of 16 million mutants and then... then things start to get really bad.
It was a 40 issue glory ride - and as X-fans you should do yourselves the service of picking these puppies up. If you don’t want to risk the delicious hardbacks then they are also available in paperback. Buy the first collected issue and if it doesn't raise goosebumps on your soft parts drop me a line and I'll refund your money.
Don't get confused with this...
The starter only thought about a particular New X-men issue wich is #150...
The other "New X-Men" thread is definitely a different one... it focus the entire series included in the New X-men. But since Marvel shifted it's title into new one, that other thread could discuss and focus only in the newest New X-Men team which is the Academy X.
Actually, this thread should heve been discussed over in the "Comics" thread.
Thank you.
