Lost Prophets

i never said they have sold out lol....ive said they're walking the line of looking like they have, the band got slated for releasing loads of singles off 1 album...and now theyre doing it again, theyve moved over to America and now start singing about "their home town" etc, with the video of him driving around US towns, just really starting to seem like theyve lost the home-land connection they had on the first album...

i couldnt care less if they did sell out or not, doesnt bother me...aslong as theres good music.

and no that doesnt mean uve sold it, but releasing copious amounts of singles with the express intention of squeezing every last possible penny out of an album would mean uve sold out lol...

i saw LostProphets live in a little club for £4, bought the original version of FSoP for a fiver, spoke with them a bit...so i dont know why ur trying to throw that "u dont know where they came from" stuff at me lol.

I think they have the odd tuneful track but it's clear that ever since they knew they could get bigger in the states by being a certain way, they have done everything to bring that on.

Selling out does bother me because it can never be good music if you know it was put out through compromisation and isn't a true reflection or artistic depiction.

OK, you gotta point there!

maybe they just made an intelligent move to get their music heard. Outkast had been around for ages, had a few albums but knew they had to make something like Speaker Boxxx to get their music into the mainstream, and it worked, maybe lostprophets are doing that too.

and they might think that there are lots of good songs on the album, hence, many singles

I still dont like them 😐 Especially Ian.

Lee was nice and stuff, Mike was a dick.

I dont know, I dont think I'll ever like them like i have before.

"maybe they just made an intelligent move to get their music heard. "

Some of the world's greatest bands don't even advertise because they know that THEIR fans are not ones to be spoon-fed. They go and find music.

your point? Lost Prophets are good, but they arn't one of the worlds best. and do you think that those bands you speak of didn't promote? course they did, they have to or they'd be nothin. and just because bands get promoted and are out there dosn't mean their fans are spoon fed. indeed some are, and will only find out about bands because they see them on Video Hits or MTV (depending on where you live), but comeone, way to lump all their fans into one basket.

Tool aren't "out there" promoting. They don't even promote their albums or advertise them. Radiohead don't advertise on TV, maybe they've had the one or two roadside billboards for their most recent album but they don't do it any other time. Talent is often predictable by the amount the band advertise. Obviously really big, awesome bands with major reps promote stuff coz they have fans from every walk of life and people wanna know when they're touring etc. Tool and such know their fans will come out and look for info or look for CDs because their have elite groups of fans.

If you are happy with ramming your music down people's throats it's pretty obvious you wanna sell your music as opposed to have more people listening to it for the fulfillment of themselves.

Lost Prophets, on the release of their first single, were nobodies. Literally just another band to us in the UK, well decent Rock fans anyhow. They knew they'd never get a major break so they went to America and changed their style completely.

Tool! pray

Lostprophets dont deserve to be mentioned in the same thread as Tool.

I totally agree with that. Tool dont promote, but Tool have more devoted fans than Lostprophets can ever dream of, and thats because Tool dont need to promote, since they are absolutely amazing musicians.

Lostprophets can only make it if they promote their shit songs and shit attitude because otherwise they'll never get recognised!

Ah you're being too hard on 'em lil.... I can understand not liking them but still...

Personally I like them. I wouldn't consider myself a fan, but "burn burn" is a kickass song. Their lyrics are a bit repetitive...

The term "selling out" is really overused these days.

"In between sips of coke
He told me that he thought we were
Selling out, laying down, sucking up to the man

Well now I've got some advice for you little buddy
Before you point your finger you should know that I'm the man
I'm the man and you're the man and he's the man as well
So you can point that f*cking finger up your ass

All you know about me's what I sold you,
Dumb ****.
I sold out long before you ever heard my name.

I sold my soul to make a record,
Dipshit,
And you bought one."

I know that doesn't apply to everybody, but he has a point.

You know, i never really released how much I hated bands with shitty attitude till i came across the Lostprophets 😑

their an ok band.

ok, congratulations on saying hte same thing over and over.

and as for Tool not doing any advertising, that's a joke. THey did plenty of advertising leading up to Lateralus' release in magazines and such, and had commercials on the radio, etc. They even did interviews with Spin and Rolling Stone! If that isn't associated with "selling out", then I don't know what is.

Though it is a good point that Tool have admitted to selling out.

As for Lostprophets changing their music between albums, it's actually very typical for a band to change their sound between their first and second efforts; thier first effort they have had their whole lives to write and so the songs are (generally) better. Rage Against The Machine's second effort was much different than their first, same with Weezer, and a million other bands.

ok lil tell me agian why you hate LP. just wondering.

just look back through the thread, shadow king

Does anyone know what selling out means??????????????????

It's pretty much when record companies tell you to play songs/do things the band don't really like doing, but still go ahead and take the money!

TBH I don't really know what it means anymore. It used to mean when somebody was only doing it for the money... But there are so many bands people claim have "sold out", and they can't ALL be doing it only for the money, surely at least a few of them still enjoy playing music 🙄

it all burns down the fact that out of 2albums, pretty much a third of the songs have been released as singles... theres only 1 excuse for that, wanting more money...why else would you release a single? or 2? or 3? or 4?!

and moving out to the US where u can get a bigger audience, and then start parading around acting like you've lived there your whole lives, etc...

Yeah, I know, but my point still stands that "sell out" is an overused term.

yea it is....but still, LP are quite close to being 1 of the few bands who deserve the term
