The Witch King of Angmar

If anyone knows anything at all about the history of the withch king and his life, can you PLEASE tell me? I need as much info as poss for a story I'm writing.

This is the perfect topic for Naz or Exa or sauron, but since they are not here I will share my limited knowledge on the subject.

The Witch King is the Lord of The Ringwraiths and the mightiest servant of the Dark Lord. He dresses all in sable, except for a silver crown that flickers with perilous light. Little of his origins is known, except that he was a king and a scorcerer. He was ensnared by Sauron when he received the greatest of the nine. After Sauon's fall in the Battle of Dagorlad at the end of the SA, he fled into the shadows and to the lands between the Ettenmoors and the Northern Waste. He there created for himself the real, of Angmar and there became known as the WitchKIng of Angmar. In later times he and the rest of the nine took control of Minas Ithil(Isildur's fortress) and renamed it Minas Morgul, Tower of Black Sorcery and there he remained until called upon by his lord.

Thanks a lot 🙂 That was helpful

Mûrazôr, The chief of the nine Ringwraiths. In Third Age he came North to take advantage of the disunion of the Dunadains in Eriador. He made the realm of Angmar in and around the Mountains of Angmar and around year 1300 he was ready to begin his evil task. He nearly succeeded but in the end he was driven away to Mordor by a united force from Lindon, Rivendell, Gondor, the remaining Dunadains and some few Hobbitarchers in T.A.1975. Mûrazôr played important roles all the time in both the Second Age and the Third Age and he was Second in Command, only to Sauron himself. He fell first of all the Nazguls by the hand of Eowyn and Meriadoc at the battle of Gondor in the location of Pelennor.

ok i got that from a website^ 🙂

I have nothing to add to your and Aurora's explanation 😉

Some words perhaps about ffwitchy - which is, the Witchking as he is shown in Fanfiction.
Some game came up with the idea of extending the history of the Nazgûl as it might have been, give them names in Tolkien's languages and so on. This means that this information *might* perhaps be true, nothing is different than Tolkien tells us, it's just more information. Some say adding something to Tolkien's work is nonsense, some say why not it's interesting. Your problem to decide what you think.

Well, according to this fanfiction-stuff, Murezôrs name was Er-Mûrazôr which is translated "the Black Prince" - compare Ar-=King.
He is said to be the brother of King Tar-Atanamir the Great of Númenor, so he was the second son of Tar-Ciryatan the Ship-Builder. He was born in Second Age 1820 during a solar eclipse with raven-black hair, so he was called "Tindomul" which means "Son of Twilight". He was fiery and aggressive and always supported the Númenórean interests. On a rapid conquest in Middle-earth, he reached Barad-dûr, the Fortress of Sauron, in the first week of S. A. 1883 where he became a pupil of the Dark Lord and expanded his knowledge of spells and wizardry during the following 115 years, until Sauron offered him a Ring of Power in 1998 and promised him wealth and immortal power.
Some time in the Third Age, Sauron sent him to the North in order to found a stronghold in Northern Arnor which later became known under the name "Witch-realm of Angmar" (therefore he was called the Witchking, being a master of Witchcraft). During long years, he was in war against the armies of Arnor but eventually conquered Cardolan and Rhudaur - if conquer is the right word here, well, the lands fell under his dominion, but Earnur's allies of Arthedain vanquished the hosts of Arnor near the capital of Arnor, Annúminas the Western Tower.
In this time Glorfindel prophecied that the Witch-king would not be killed by any man.
Later at the end of the Third Age, the Witch-king led the army fighting at Osgiliath and then rode to the Shire with the other Nazgûl in order to find the One Ring.
He stabbed Frodo with the Morgul-knife on Weathertop; at the Ford of Bruinen, he and the other Ringwraiths were engulfed of the enchanted river. After that disaster, he returned to Minas Morgul and later led the hosts of Sauron against Minas Tirith. There he fought against Gandalf and the Rohirrim; when Théoden was killed under his horse, his niece Eowyn challenged Witchy with the words "But no living man am I! You look upon a woman. Eowyn I am, Eomund´s daughter. You stand between me and my Lord and kin. Begone, if you be not deathless! For living or dark undead, I will smite you, if you touch him". He broke Eowyns hand holding her green shield, but Merry plunged his sword into the knee of the Lord of the Nazgûl and so Eowyn could kill him.

[The parts about the Third Age are confirmed by Tolkien, only the Second Age is really fanfiction]

😕 Yeah.....what they said....

All I know is that I'd like to live in Minas Morgul or around Morgul Vale, Ahhhhhhh Nazgul spa center.

Anything to add sauron?

I was watching RotK and I was wondering what allowed Eowyn to kill the Witch King? Also, what is meant by the prophacy "no living man can slay him"

In the books, some elf, Glorfindel, I believe, fought the Witchking in a huge battle. In the end, he couldn't kill the Witchking, and so he decreed that no "man" or elf could kill him.
Eowyn is not a "man", or an elf, therefore she could maybe possibly have killed him. But she is of the race of "men".
In the book, and in the movie, it is Merry who kills the Witchkig with literally, a "stab in the back".

Hey Nazgulinthedark, where did you get that from, or what website?

Just go to google and look up Mûrazôr, or Er-Mûrazôr 🙂

Yep, this battle was the Downfall of the Kingdom of Arnor, the northern equivalent of Gondor, ruled by Isildur's heirs;
When the last king (Arvedui) of the already broken realm was attacked by Witchking, he wanted to defeat the King of Angmar himself, but his horse was so afraid and ran away... with Arvedui, the King, on his back of course 😄
Arvedui was totally depressed, but Glorfindel (whose army had defeated Wiki's armies before!) told him that he couldn't have done anything anyways... and made this prophecy,
"Far off yet is his doom, and not by the hand of man will he fall."

Neither Eowyn nor Meriadoc are really men - she is a woman, he is a hobbit-youngster.

🤘 🤘 🤘

You underestimate the power of the dark side.

Now you will see the power of this Fully Operational Death Star!

i have nothing to add...everything here sums him up perfectly

Merry has a penis-he is a man.

you cant say that because he wasnt of the race of men but still male-he could kill him. because that would enable an elf to kill him.

something glorfindel says cant be done, just because glorfy couldnt kill him, apparently now no man can---true elf fashion that, if i cant do it, it cant be done.

anyway--wasnt it merry and pippin who still to 'come of age'
so technically they are boys.

oh the humilty my greatest servant killed by some pre-pubesent midget child

it doesnt say in the movie, but the "a" sword merry recieved had a special tint in it which would drsain the withkings un-dying powers,

once merry stabbed the witchking that would make him defenseless just like any other man or elf

Discos 😂 it aint anything about Eowyn being a women
