Whereas Mei could have killed Sasuke if she had moved a little faster, Sasuke could have killed Mei if he decided to use Amaterasu instead of pouring more chakra into Susano'o. The kicker is that only one of those two could barely stand on two legs.

Mind, if he'd done amaterasu, the boil release would still kill him.
