Saying Angel was 1997-1999 and Giles 1997-2001 seems a bit disingenuous; if you rule Giles out of 2003 despite being in most of it just because he was not in the oponing credits then Angel should only be 1998-1999...

Season 1 was shown in 1997.
Season 2 was shown in 1997-98.
Season 3 was shown in 1998-99.

So even though Angel was not in the first season's credits, he still became a cast member in 1997.
