theres already a thread about this 😄
Immortal. Arrived in Middle-earth c. III 1000; their fate is unknown
Race: Ainur
Division: Maiar of Oromë
Order: Istari (Wizards)
Other Names: Ithryn Luin
The two Wizards, Alatar and Pallando, who did not remain in the west of Middle-earth, but journeyed into its far eastern regions.
So in whole sentences 😉
Allatar and Pallando were called the Blue Wizards because they wore blue robes; the other three wizards ("istari"😉 were Gandalf the grey (later white), Saruman the white (later the colourful) and Radagast the brown. While Gandalf travelled around everywhere in Middleearth and Radagast lived in Rhosgobel in Mirkwood, Saruman and the Blue Wizards went to the East, yet Saruman returned after some time while nobody heard of the blue wizards anymore. It may be that they were killed, or became servants of Sauron; perhaps they also used their powers to help men there, nobody knows.
In the beginning, Ilú created the Ainur which are the holy ones, and when he made Ea the world, some of them travelled there; those are called the Valar (the 15 most mighty ones but one is not counted so 14) and the Maiar (which are all the rest, very, very many, nobody knows how many or what their names were, save some few). Some of the Maiar came to Middle-earth instead of staying in the land of gods; these are for example Sauron, the Balrog, the five Wizards, Melian or also Osse who often spent his time at the shores of the sea.
Very suspicious indeed as Sauron AND Saruman were both Maiar of Aule 😄 maybe they were old friends 😛

What would we do without u Exa??? 🙂
And, yes, they do not have a real shape and chose human-like ones not to look so dangerous 😄
Ungoliant for example took the shape of a spider, or the balrogs fiery ones... they usually dont change again.

I can't wait to read Silmarillion. Why would those maiar choose to be Balrog? Are they Evil already or do they turn?
Morgoth turned some to the "evil" side during the music of the ainur when singing disharmoningly... they were his spirits from the beginning of the world.

morgoth? that sounds a lot like what happened to melkor.. when he started making his own music and stuff...
are they the same person or what...*excuse my noobism to the sil, just started readin' it*
melkor was his original name, morgoth is what the good guys started calling him.
morgoth bowgleer : 'Morgoth' means 'Black Enemy'; 'Bauglir' is 'The Constrainer'
i usually call him Melkor 'cause i like it. (it's more respectful... i guess)
as for the balgrogs, they were maiar like Sauron, but they chose the form of Fire demons and allied with melkor when he rebelled.
and Aule, stop dragging his name through the mud!!! he made the chain that held melkor, he made the Dwarves (ahead of schedule, and got in trouble), he established the Valar, and taught Feanor who made the silmarils, palantir, and probably eventually plasma screen TVs.
