I like Star Wars because of the designing and detail they put into the movie, especially for having not a lot of SFX (digital stuff, etc.). The OT ships looked really cool. For a terrific battle sequence, watch ROTJ (=Return of the Jedi) from the Original Trilogy. I always wondered how they get all the detail into those smaller models. I've seen a Y-Wing (OT) that sits in the palm of your had and looks to be as big as a school eraser or very small jawbreaker.
Plus, I like futuristic stuff. It gives me ideas for the stories I write. 🙂
Well, the one-liners don't make a huge amount of sense ifg you have not seen the films...
Ok, Micky, why should you see them? It's not a bad question, because they at first appear to be lightly-plotted, special effects films for kids. And to be sure, they are not the deepest films ever- but that said, they touch on themes that are very fundamnetal indeed.
What Star Wars has to offer is:
1. The most classic sort of story (heroes and villains and romance, war, betrayal and death) put into the most fabulously rich setting
2. Amazing style. The Bounty Hunters and Jedi just ooze coolness. The Force goes far beyond just being fancy telekinesis, and becomes the stylistic centre of the films, that leaves everyone saying 'I WISH I could do that!'
3. The sabre fights. This seems a bit shallow to use as a good point., After all, aren't they just re-hashed Robin Hood swordfights? But no! These things are BRILLIANT! They are either brilliant because of the amazing emotional resonance of the original three- which manage to combine vital plot development AND a good fight at once- or because they are just so brilliantly well done, as is the case in The Phantom Menace.
4. Great heroes, great villians... in fact, the characters in Star Wars are its trump card. If it fails in places it is because the character plots were weak- hence Han's weak role in ROTJ, whilst he was brilliant in ESB where his character plot was the strongest.
5. They just hang together so amazingly well. These films are about as well made as you can make them. That's is not to say they are perfect, and they have flaws- some more than others- but they are still made as well as they could have been done, by ANYONE. Say what you like about GL, he has the men for the job.
6. Princess Leia in a gold bikini...
It can't be your brains, you have none! 😛
