They are "deleted".

Meaning somewhere out there they are still stored...

no, last I heard, when you delete them, they're off the server and can not be restored

at least that was what Raz told me when I deleted a PM I wanted to keep

he just didn't feel like doing it 😛

However, the person who sent you or recieved the message, may still have a copy.
