What of Raimi's directing would you change in the "Spider-Man" films? Like I said, people tend to be more hung up on the stories than the actual direction. What about "Evil Dead" or "A Simple Plan"? Those were beautifully directed, IMO, and I'd hope I'm not alone in saying so.Lucas, however, I'm with you most of the way.
Raimi's directing in the Spiderman films was just too simple, it wasn't really imaginative enough. He didn't the best out of the actors because I felt they were the wrong ones cast. He didn't get the best out of the story because visually it was the wrong way to explore the story of Spider-Man. He made it too happy, and sappy. The scenes with Peter and Mary-Jane made me want to throw up because they looked like they were from a Disney cartoon. The..STOP!
But anyway, yes , The Evil Dead movies were well done by Raimi and I was entertained by them, Army of Darkness being my favourite.

i dont understand the lack of love for Joel Schumacher gets, i mean 8mm, Phone Booth and Flat Liners and they were all amazing movies
I agree with you that 8mm and Flatliners were amazing movies.Especially Flatliners, thats my favorite movie from the 90's.Yeah I think its unfair the criticisem Schumacher is getting as well because he has made quite a few good movies that also should be mentioned such as The Phantom of the opera,St Elmo's Fire,The Client and A Time to Kill.
WHHOOAAAAA!!!! How long has this thread been reserrected??? This was my first ever post, back in 2002 😄 Ah my 6th form days!!!
Hmmm so I said Michael Bay was the best director ever..... ok ok, I'm wrong!!! Being a film uni student now and knowing a shit load more about film than back then, Mr Bay is FAR from the best!
I still don't think it's fair to brand him the worst ever director tho. If you don't like his films then I just think it's down to opinion. I personally think Pearl Harbor had some horrible moments and some genius moments! Besides, when he first came out, his style had never been seen before in cinemas.
But thats all down to my opinion!
However I really don't think its fair to brand him worst ever director! Can anyone here actually believe that directors such as Paul WS Anderson, Steven Sommers, Uwe Boll, John R. Leonetti, Sam Weisman or Nigel Dick are better than Michael Bay???

He said he made the shots simple because people go there to see Spider-Man, not interesting camera shots. I agree with Sam.
But Sam Raimi has a signature style that he just can't abandon altogether, atleast he didn't with the Doc Ock surgery scene in SM2.
Uwe Boll? I don't see why everyone takes pride in bashing him. He's got 2 movies that are recognizable here in the States, and while they are both crap, there have got to be far worse directors that are actually notorious for directing awful flicks.
I like most of Bay's work. Consider what he directs, action flicks, right? It's total eye candy, and a lot of the times, the actors are very cliche, patriotic, and save the day. Looking for dramatic performances outside the usual harrowing ending is like panning for gold in a sewage drain.
Sometimes people just expect either too much from someone, or something that was never supposed to be there in the first place.
sorry guys but no number of movies on the caliber of flatliners can save him from the fact he almost derealed the entire batman series!!!! Thats just wrong! He did enough damage in just two movies in my opinion to make him one of the worst regardless of flatliners.
well for pure direction i would have to say Kevin Smith. He is a terrible director. I am not talking abotu his scripts or his good picks of actors, i am talking about pure directing ability.
For crappy films i would have to say Spike Lee. That guy has the most horrible movies and is such a reverse racist.
For being overrated i would have to say Spielberg. He has a couple movies i like including saving private ryan but overall his movies are just not thyat great!!! and he is esteemed to be like the best ever, it kinda steams me a tad.
I can't say Schumacher is that bad. He blew me away with Phone Booth.
After I watched it I was like "This is from the guy who did Batman & Robin - how the hell?".
Just keep him away from franchise movies and he's good.
And even though I think Batman Forever is a crappy Batman movie (as far as it mirrors the spirit of Batman), I still watch it. Theres something fun about it, and Godammit, I want to hate it, I know its WRONG, but I can't help but enjoy it. Even though Jones' Two Face and Carreys' Riddler are two different versions of The Joker, and Robin is way too old and should be Nightwing, I still like it. I don't know why.

Comic book movie directors get the most shit out of all directors, only second to people like the Wachiowskis and George Lucas. Personally I would leave people like that out of this discussion. It only brings circle arguments. One man or woman cannot be held personally responsible for the legions of people saying:
"YOUR DOING IT WRONG!!!!!!!!!!! 😠 "
I used to think Shumacher was an idiot too, until I found out he did 'A time to kill' 'flatliners', and 'Lost boys'
Its hard to judge their talents, partially because a lot of other individuals go into making a film.
Who would have thought the director of 'the frightners' (another one of my all time fave movies), would go on to direct LOTR and win academy awards.
