"Direct to Video" Horror Movies..Any Good?

I virtually live at Hollywood Video, as I try and watch 3 movies a day, from either my personal collection, or by renting.

Everytime I am there, I see some really obscure, no name horror movies on the shelves and new release wall. My question is, do you guys bother with these, because it may be the next "Evil Dead" or just avoid it because of the cheesy cover.

Some titles I have seen include, but aren't limited to:

The Shaft
Miner's Massacre
The Cube 2
Cracker Jack'd
Shredder
Game Over
Black Horizon
Beyond Re-Animator
Detour (Wrong Turn ripoff, I suppose)
The Invitation (Lance Henriksen, can't be all that bad)
Tomie

Anyone ever give movies like this a whirl and come out happy?

Check out Dog Soldiers, it's a great one.

Cube 2 isn't bad. People tend to have mixed opinions of it though.

I think most straight to video horror movies suck. A crack in the Floor is one I saw a few months ago and I hated it.

Backfire is right about Dog Soldiers, it's a great flick.

I hated Cube 2...it was an unnecessary sequel that didn't answer any of the questions raised and left unanswered in the first one. Plus the production was piss poor. They couldn't afford colored rooms, so they were all confiniently white.

I am kind of indifferent towards the movie. Like I said, I don't think it was BAD, but I don't ever really want to see it again.

I hated Cube 2 also. and yea Dog Soilders was very good. I usally dont like movies that go right to dvds but dog soilders was good. Hey Backfire tell me if i am correct when did they stop putting the Hell rasier series in the movies or do they still put them on it im not sure

i heard about a movie called something Mine. some kids end up in a mine and get chopped up by this creature that looks like the Creeper from JC and just kills them.

The last Hellraiser that was in the theatres was Hellraiser 4: Bloodline.

Yeah it was pretty good mostly cheezy but entertaining

Pretty original though plus it was pretty gory for back in them days
