The Matrix Celebrates Ten Years I can’t believe it’s been ten years since The Matrix first surprised audiences with the explosive answer to the leading question throughout its marketing: “What is the Matrix?” Ten years since Keanu’s Neo learned the truth of the world around him, unplugged from the Matrix, learned Kung Fu, and became The One who would go on to lead humans in a war against the machines.Warner Brothers is celebrating the anniversary of The Matrix with a new, tenth anniversary edition of the movie on Blu-ray, due out March 31st. Looking over the announced bonus materials, however, I’m not seeing anything different from what we’ve seen in the current edition of the movie, available in “The Ultimate Matrix Collection” box set, which came to Blu-ray in September. That makes sense, actually - by calling it the “ultimate” set, they’re indicating it’s the pinnacle of what you’ll see on DVD and Blu-ray. Anything else would be less, right?
This looks like an individual title release that probably will just have new artwork (as yet unseen), but doesn’t look like it has anything else to offer. If you’re one of those who held off on getting “The Ultimate Matrix Collection” because you hate the sequels, here’s a chance to get the first title in high definition on its own. That’s about all I can see a tenth anniversary release being worth.
