why is it that everytime there is blockbuster hit that they feel obligated to make a sequel?

I don't believe they feel obligated to make a Gladiator sequel.........I don't think it's even being rumored. I think the originator of this thread was just posting a "what if" question.

Quite the contrary, sadly....It's already in pre-production and is set for a 2005 release. Russel Corwe is NOT returning, and the script is set for 20 years after Maximus's death. Ridley Scott is likely returning to direct

The only option would be a prequel imo, but I don't think it' s a good idea. And if it' s true what Lord Soth said, then a sequel is even worse.
