If you got the message 'Click here to view this picture', then that means that there was something wrong with the original picture. What happens is, when you upload the picture, the server tries to resize the image to make a thumbnail, but if there is something wrong with the picture (for whatever reason) then it can't resize it and thus can't show a thumbnail.
