Jack Sparrow Dread locks?

im the movie it looks like Sparrow had dread locks? am i just seeing things or does he really?

Yes Jack Sparrow has dreadlocks, with a ponytail at the back, and lots of bead, and bone. don't forget the plaits in his beard... His beard is cool.

It was actually a wig and it come off in one sceane. I think its in the blooper real
