First there was MF GRIMM, then MF DOOM now witness the next "MF". That's right Serengeti aka The Geti King is also known as "MF Geti" and Gasoline Rainbows is the second release on Rock Day By Day. I wanted to interview Geti myself. Geti is one of the most talented beings on this planet and a day with Serengeti is like a lifetime journey of learning. If you take the creative energy of Jimmy Hendrix with the smooth style of Mr. Rourke from Fantasy Island and then add the talent and world presence of the Beatles...then you have Serengeti. You know about MF GRIMM, MF DOOM...It's time to learn about the next level of the MF's… SO ALL HAIL THE GETI KING!

Image MF to MF I must say you're a very creative and interesting brother, please tell the readers a little about yourself and where you're from?
Well, I'm serengeti from Chicago, 6'1", 185lbs. I'm out in L.A. right now, did some relaxing, went to a studio in San Fernando Valley, ate some Persian food, good times going to a f and d show tonight at the Knitting Factory and am supposed to do a radio show at around midnight.
Tell us about the Chicago music scene? Name some artists that are out there and around the world that you have worked with or whose music you listen to that the world needs to hear. How can the readers check them out?
Chicago music scene is bland, same ole shit mostly, but that's everywhere I guess, things are bland, bland boring, there are some cats, in the S.S. Fizz LLC., like Midas Wells beats, Ken Smith beats, Extra Credit beats, Larissa, Analog Addicts, Dirty Heater, FFS, Hi Fidel, Tony Trimm, RYAN, DJ Crucial, Cool D, Miles Bonny, and so on... All these cats will be featured on my upcoming website Getiking.com (where dreams are made)
What about St. Louis? You get mad love out there, what is it about you and the Lou?
St. Louis, Crucial's from St. Louis, went to college near St. Louis, recorded the Dirty Flamingo in St. Louis, went to ball games, I have great friends in St. Louis, it's good times, when the Gasoline makes me rich, I'm gonna buy a crib in St. Louis, it's so cheap.
Tell us about F5 Records. Name some of the artists and how readers can reach out to them.
F5 records was started by Crucial in like 98 I think, released shit like my Dirty Flamingo, Fidel's album, Jia Davis, Bits n Pieces, a Juice wax, a Slug and Rubberroom and Fidel joint, got this MC Eiht shit, MF GRIMM, and MORE. F5records.com
How many albums have you released so far?
I've only released two, the Dirty Flamingo and Noodle Arm Whimsy or Whisky as URB put it on thefrozenfoodsection.com, but I have about 9 albums done, my next release should be my epic Gasoline Rainbows, due out on Day By Day Entertainment. It's fresh, good times, good things.
Is Gasoline Rainbow your first Rock album? I wouldn't really consider it rock, I think it's rap, just really fresh shit, maybe called myself music, but yeah I like to work with my melodies and shit.
Where did you record Gasoline Rainbows? And how long did it to take to complete the album?
Gasoline took about 4 years on and off, there's about 5 different versions of it, but I recorded it at Q Studios in Logan Square, Uptown Recordings in Uptown, the Laboratory 1 in Hyde Park,KS Studios in North St Louis and that's about it, I can't wait for it to see the light of day.
Why did you choose the name Serengeti?
I don't remember how Serengeti came about, but I like it, the Serengeti plains have everything, deserts, jungles, forest... sorta like myself, I got bushes, a tree and boulders.
Tell us about the producer Extra Credit and how you guys met?
Credit is dope, he makes beats in 7 minutes, Capitol King Whimsy. I met him when I was about 15 on the day he was born, he's my little bro, thus our new album Brothers Whimsy, it's dope.
What's your view on life?
Wan we all got choices, by your own terms, if you perceive yourself as a terrible person you will be become a terrible ****ing idiot, do good, watch what you rap about, stop rapping business men please, enjoy, relax, goals, I hate all that stupid ass thug gang shit that's always honored in rap music, the state of negro america is not okay, rap should inkle change, seems as though the ass's control it, but its depressing kill women rap, random violence music, everything is fine celebrate negativity music.. go to hell.
Would you ever run for political office? If so why? If not then why not?
I don't think politics are for me, just have no interest, growing up my mom was real political like communist and shit, so I kinda got burned out by that shit. I just wanna go to the beach good times, spread that on, instead of you must and all that stress.
What hip hop artist would you elect as president of the United States of America? And why?
My man Hi Fidel, he gathers all types of people and doesn't change face to do it, so he could unite people, or the streets or pugz atomz or I don't know.
Your mind is so creative, can you see yourself doing anything besides music? Film? Fashion? Art?
Well I got this script I've been working on "kenny and jueles' also these photo books, and a children story about the ills of drugs or I can work for budweiser as a beer salesman or rehab apartments, so that's that.
Name some of the artists you listen to within hip hop?
I like the last streets album, been listening the Scars and Memories album in L.A. and mostly beats, I don't really listen to that much rap, I'm overwhelmed with my album after album disease so I'm plagued, I used to be of a fan before I rapped, KMD, 3rd Bass, Kwest tha Mad Lad, Kwame, Brand Nubian, Shigge, and so on all that golden era shit, then Nas then Doom now beats.
Name some of the artist you listen to outside of hip hop?
I like listening to old shit that mom used to listen to like Phoebee Snow, Joan Armatrading, Carmen Mccrea, Sarah Vaughn, Cat Stevens, Ella Fitzgerald, then all my brother's old shit, Prince, Reflex, the Stray Cats, Men at Work, the Thompson Twins, Culture Club then my shit like Radiohead, Bjork, Cassidy, Dinosaur JR. this song "thumb live" is my favorite there's alotta shit.
What's the funniest thing that happened while you were doing a show? I guess being really drunk and forgetting lyrics, I guess that's not really funny, or I did this show and all these people had made these Dennehy shirts (I got this album called dennehy) with Brain D. on the cover, lyrics from the song on the back, caused a chuckle.
Who do you want to see win the world series? The Chicago Cubs pr the Chicago White Sox?
I'm not one of those people that if you like the Cubs you have to hate the Sox, that's stupid. I want them both to win, I'm a baseball fan and a chicago sports fan so everybody wins.
Do you play sports? If so, what sports do you play?
I love playing sports, played baseball in highschool, I like cycling and tennis now, don't really like hooping much anymore, all that dribbling shit, I like activities. I love watching sports and boxing, Yito just lost, damn. Missed the Chico and Castillo fight heard it was the fight of the century damn, never thought I'd see the day when Roy Jones was knocked out but there's alotta I never thought I'd see, alright.
Could you see yourself living outside of America? If so where would that be?
Yeah I lived in Sweden and Japan before it was great, I can see myself living in Toronto, close enough to the fam, but far enough to escape good ole american violence that rappers promote, I always wanted to live above a flower shop in Paris.
Geti King thank you for your time. Thank you.
