I've been listening to Ras Kass recently. A little late I know, but up until yesterday the only image I had of him was that horrible video on a yacht with Dre, so I'd just assumed he was another worthless gangsta rapper. How wrong I've been. I got Soul On Ice and Rassassination the other day, and what can I say, he's stunning. A little over afro-centric at times, but who isn't nowadays.
Nature Of The Threat and Interview With A Vampire are my favorite songs of his thus far.
Ras Kass is a good lyricist but his flow is a little off for me sometimes.
I am listening to Common's new shit lately. I actually waited for the retail this time. The lyrics are typical Common lyricism, so that's great, but the actual songs don't live up to the hype surrounding this album. I was expecting some better production seeing that Kanye was producing it and all but it's really on the weaker side if you ask me. Though I don't know who's fault it is, it could be Kanye's production or it could be Common's beat selection. But it's still a good album nonetheless.

he WAS on of my favorite lyricists. once he got out of jail, he released a few new songs, and it was PURE MAINSTREAM/COMMERCIAL. the lyrics were great, but the things he said was bull shit 😛
Soul On Ice was his best album.
Rasassination was alright.
Van Gogh was alright.
I heard a Chino XL track on the hip hop station hear in Sac which is pretty surprising since all it plays is mainstream stuff. Can't remember the name of the song but I know it was recent as there was a punchline on Star Joneses weight. I liked his flow and gotta admit his punchlines are pretty funny.

I had some spare money (which is rare when you have 2 kids) and bought The Perceptionists and Eyedeas Oliver Hart Album.
I really like the Perceptionists album, Lif and Ak are a great team and complement each other well. They also choose topics that i find interesting and approach it from a down to earth point of view. Stand out tracks for me are "Black Dialogue", "Career finders"(funny as hell) and 5 o'clock. My one problem was the album was too short.
Eyedea has always amazed me with his lyrical skill and the Oliver Hart album is no disappointment. The overall style is different to his other stuff I've heard but thats not a bad thing, I'm all for broadening your horizons. My favourite tracks on this are "Weird side", "Step by step", "Bottle dreams" and "How much do you pay?"
Both albums were well worth my hard earned cash.
