I am starting to think I should be more careful about some stats...for example when I make the post distribution (in %) without the OTF, I should exclude the "Annual party" thing in the LOTR forum (which really looks like a pointless thread to me - no offence - and that really fools the stats, just like the OTF) and threads like that...

Trying to have any type of decent convo in the OTF in crazy....That's just a madhouse. Besides there are some of us who don't hang out in the OTF 24-7.

GP, you may be a mod now but that's no excuse to forget about your weekly stats 😛
Hey everyone ! The Mad Statistician is back !
I'll start with the classics.
1) New members every month (past 18 months to give a general idea of the trends). The figures shows a regular rise since February, apart from July which was excellent (4400 new members, when the highest ever was 5000). I assume some big hits have been released (but I can't tell : we're always late here). It's a good pace IMHO
2) Total "Membercount". Same Period. Basically it shows exactly the same, ie that the Forums are growing on a regular rythm, except 2 big "leaps" : November, 2003 and July 2004. This relative stability has nonetheless nothing to do with the situation 18 months ago (2000-2500 new members against 80 !)

There are several reasons:
-To prevent people going offtopic in Forum threads ((they go to the social thread and chat))
-some forums ((eg LOTR, POTC, HP)) ave very close-knit communities - they don't like chatting in OTF with people they don't know
-Some people ((like moi 😉 )) hate and despise the OTF craziness - we'd much rather have a quiet chat in our forum, with people we 'see' everyday.

At least, these are the only reasons I can think of - there may be more
