I hate rap and I hate the way rap lovers defend rap (most of the time). On a track trip I made a comment about the rap song to a friend and this other guy got all defensive. I said, "I hate this rap, all they are doing is throwing together whatever words rhyme together in a phrase." Btw: The song is all about where the guy would have sex with this girl and was as simple as saying rhymes such as "in a jicuzzi, in the back of a movie,"... etc. The guy turned around in the van and said, "Actually if you listen, they are actually saying words." I was like "No shit? I realized they were words (dumb ass is what I wanted to say), I'm just saying that they are taking any two words that rhyme and throwing them together." Then he said, "Actually there is meaning to this song." Again, I said, "Really? The one about how he wants to have sex with the girl and would do it anywhere? Thats a pretty weak meaning. It doesn't go in depth at all." This time his response was, "Us black people get a little something... its called pussy." I told him I was unaware that white people were asexual sense we apparently reproduce without getting "pussy." He then said that the population of white people is decreasing because they can't get pussy while black people do so their population is increasing. Now, I'm not racist, but I used racist back sense he started the racial attacks and I said, "Actually dumb ass, the population of whites is increasing but just not at as fast of a rate as black people. Thats because black people are primative beings and primative beings have to reproduce as much as possible to survive." I wanted to kill that son of a *****. BTW: I don't really mean that statement, I just used it as a verbal attack against an *******.

not cool. your useless by the way.

I can't stand rap, but some of my friends are major fans and i respect their opinions. I just don't like the culture that comes with it, all my friends who listein to it like to think of themselves as 'playaz' who treat woman quite terrible.

Not all hip-hop is like that no2

There's an Immortal Technique song called "No Me Importa" that talks about the lack of respect for women in today's culture, and the effect it's had on women themselves. Good song.

rap isnt crap only country music is.

not all rap is about sex and drugs.
i write my own rap lyrics and published a few and mine just talk about when i was growing up and past experiences, so not all rap is about sex and drugs.

incoherent rambling + loud clanging noises without rhythm > hyperbolic drug/violence stories? not much of an improvement

I assume you are referring to Death Metal and Black Metal?

Are you under the impression that all Metal bands use screaming or growling vocals?

Many Metal vocalists have clean, entirely coherent to the average listener for the most part, like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, most Power Metal bands, a lot of Thrash Metal bands (Metallica is a decent example), etc.

+ loud clanging noises without rhythm

"1.A strong, regular, repeated pattern of movement or sound."

The only sub-genre of Metal which semi-regularly does not fit this definition is Black Metal, which I will readily admit is generally of pretty poor quality (**** Varg Vikernes), though with some exceptions.

I should note that I am not here to trash talk hip hop. While I personally don't care for the genre nearly as much as Metal, I also don't look down on most who listen to it, and acknowledge that there are many talented rappers (Though the vast majority these days are underground). I am merely here to tell PsychoGundam to stfu.

he oversimplified, and it was countered by oversimplification.

at least lol with me when when that guy tried to attribute sex and drugs to only hip hop. metal IS sex and drugs

yawn The anti hiphop/rap arguments never change.

Turn off the radio. 🙄

IMO the best on the radio is Eminem and Yelawolf.

*Braces self for eminem hate...*

There is PLENTY of talent in this genre. But if you don't go find it, you'll be left to what is on the radio and what you deem "crap". That's your fault not the entire genre of hiphop's fault.

Most people who say "rap sucks" are just basing it off mainstream. If that's all they know about it then they don't know all there is to know about rap as a genre, which means they probably have no real right to call it crap.

I listen to all types of music. If it sounds good to me, I'll listen it it. Doesn't matter what the genre is. But if I didn't know anything about rock and was a fairly bigoted individual when it came to it (heavy metal, acid or whatever), I could probably say that it's all a bunch of a "loud music, with some body whining their way through terribly written lyrics, that all worships Satan and people biting the heads off of lil animals".

But that CLEARLY wouldn't be right, and that would only succeed in making me sound like some sort of ignorant douche-bag that doesn't pay respect to the fact that there is a NUMBER of different types of rock music out there. If people just don't like it, that's fine. But to say the genre as a whole is crap is the kind of stuff that makes my head hurt, because 9/10, the individual doesn't even know that's there much more to the genre that what they may see by what's played on the radio or what's shown on MTV or BET.

The inherent difference is that the Metal you described isn't what's mainstream right now, far from it. Most mainstream hip hop is exactly what he described.

And no it really isn't, not really. Sure it's there, but it was only truly defining of the music in Hair Metal of the eighties.

^ seriously, that argument again?

most music sucks across the board, not just hip-hop, but if you want to split hairs metal is missing in action right now.

really though i'm talking about the shining examples of said genres, for instance no metal phucks with the Ready to die album.

come at me

YouTube video

^ lyrics, flow, wordplay/metaphors, storytelling, etc, it's all there.
now that story is not factual, but neither is terminator 2: judgement day, but no less a masterpiece for what they are.

Not entirely, no.

"Good" metal is rarer, but that's beside the point.

I'll take my musical virtuosity, vocal range and power, as well as song-writing proficiency, thanks. 🙂

Nah, driving the thread off-topic.

I have no particular desire to badmouth hip hop, like you seem to want to do to Metal (Even though I was clear that I had no desire to badmouth hip hop to start with).
