Dedication or just plain stupid

My good mate Marc (Lord Vegellamy) recently retried FFVII, unfortunatly he didn't want to kill Aerith and ended up leaving the first disc at level 78. Now is this dedication or is this rank stupidity since he completed disc 2 in an incredibly short amoun of time. Has anyone bettered this?
