Does the country you were born in define your nationality?

Started by Evy_O3 pages

People usually forget about their nationalities, especially if they don't visit said countries regularly. Most can't even speak their languages.

hey! 😠
that's a low shot evy!

If it is down to the parents then in my case I should be English, if it is down to where you have lived most of your life then I am English.
But I was born in Wales and have a birth certificate that is in Welsh but translated into English. So shouldn't the last one count for more?

OMG!!

I was born in Dyfed, in Wales, my parents are English, I grew up in East England and I have a Welsh Birth Certificate.

Weird.......

But I am English, I speak English (I know no Welsh), my whole family are English (Northern and Eastern), I've spent the last 14 years of 19 in England. (2 yrs in Wales, 3 in Germany, where my brother was born).

So, how would you work that one out?

Basically, I'm an "RAF Brat". 😛

Same here really, I think I was born in Dyfed as well and I don't know the language at all. I'm the only one of my family that was born in a different country and since moving to England I've never been back to Wales to see what it's like.

yerss> it's so mean 🙁
but you can speak many languages already 😖

of course it's a mean smiley, that's what it's used for

yeah, and my country has 3 official ones not counting english, but it would be great if I could actually speak them fluently

than on the other hand, you have to suffer old greek 😈

well, use it to someone else 😛
practice them then yerss... then you'll speak them fluently ✅

not anymore 😈 I don't have ancient greek class next year 😊

y'know what a scheisse german is???

I was born in England, and think of myself as English, even though my official nationality (the nationality on my passport) is British.

no 😖

good, cause that language is that 😛

So.. what's the point of learning ancient Greek, anyways? Like I said earlier it's only good if you want to be an archaeologist and somebody said I was wrong... What's it for? Do you really NEED to know the roots of all those words? 😖 Obviously, they don't teach it here or I would know this..

considering the Greek civilisation was the one who created the others in Europe and quite a few words are inspired on greek... it would come very in handy yes

hehe
