What the british call crisps, the americans call chips
and what the british call chips, the americans call fries.
Its wierd.
They are Crisps.
I suppose it really depends on where they were first made, and what they were called then. I am not sure, but I think they were first made by an african american slave, whose master then went on to make a fortune out of them.

In the UK its crisps, but we dont call french fries chips - we call them fries. Chips are like french fries, but bigger, thicker, and tastier! So in conclusion, I say crisps.
oh... well here in the states, we call 'em fries, no matter what shape, size, or tastiness level they are 😉 so I just foolishly assumed it was the same on your side of the pond
