Finally they, or mostly Hedi, had completed their dreaded task, Hoshi stomped upstairs, ignoring her mother, who had told her it was time to take more medicine. She walked outside and sat on the empty porch, going through her her over and over in her mind until she had actually started humming it. What was a quiet hum soon turned itself into a gentle whisper. Before long, the little girl was singing her song, the setting sun glowing brightly in the sky.
The sounds of a newbie playing a piano filled the hall. Hedi knew that Hoshi would cover her ears and run into a different room. Hedi always thought that it was a mistake of her mother to sign her up for piano. "Hedi, you play such wonderful music," said Mrs. Brown as she arranged flowers that sat on top of the piano. "I can't wait to go to your recital next week also."
Hoshi did indeed wince. Since she was a pretty good singer, she knew all the notes and a bit about piano. Hoshi walked inside and watched her twin play, and sat on the large bench beside Hedi. Hedi seemed to always play that one note wrong. "No!" She finally said loudly, and Hedi paused. "What?" She asked.
"It's and e, not a g, Hedi," She said quietly, wondering how Hedi could of mixed those up.
"Fine," said Hedi. She caught herself playing g but stopped midway and hit the e very gently. The rest of the song seemed to flow smoothly with her sister's critcal eye on things. For once, Mrs. Brown seemed to enjoy the music and she even stopped in to listen.
"Thanks," said Hedi to her sister. "I like how mom and you seem to like my music much better now."
She finally stood, shrugging. She hated to agree with anyon over anything, but nodded. "yeah, its wierd right?" She giggled. "Now, play thi ok? I need practice too, i'll sing along." Hoshi place slightly complicated music in front of Hedi on the piano, but Hedi would be able to figure it out.
Hedi messed up a few times before she finally played the piece smoothly, Hoshi soon after jumping in with the vocal. The song was in latin, and had taken a week for Hoshi to master. She was quick with music.
"Italian? I didn't know you knew Italian? Since when do you know Itlalian?" asked Hedi with true awe in her voice. Her face was scrunched up in concentration as she tried to figure out where her sister could possibly learn that. "Let's sing Christmas songs and I can still play them."
"Let's do Chestnuts roasting on an open fire," said Hedi. She looked for the song under a stack of new mateial, that her teacher wanted her to learn in the future. "Here it is!" She waved it around for Hoshi to see.
