Deftones are metal. They're nu metal. Notice the 'metal' part there.

yeah, but I don't classify Deftones as nu-metal because, IMO, most nu metal sucks ass.

Plus, back in the day, when I started listening to Deftones I don't even think nu metal was a genre, or at least not one that I had ever heard anyone speak of.

Most? Maybe about half, but I feel its a fairly underrated genre.

Nu metal was born as a genre in 1994 when Korn released their self-titled album. It existed before Deftones, but they were pioneers of the genre.

And I used the word 'genre' far too many times in that post 🙂

Linkin Park aren't metal...I'm burned out on protecting Korn, so just think what you want.

Korn are Metal, they are ok...... they may not be Pantera or Slayer, but they're still metal and linking them in even the same sentence as LP is kinda bad 😖

I agree...Korn are metal. But i still don't think they belong anywhere near the top.

Technically they don't. They have funk and rap elements, no solo's, unsubtle lyrics and jump from sub-genre to sub-genre constantly. All of those are classic ingredients for crap metal. They're nothing like any of the other bands I like, but to me, Korn are one of the best. I grew up with them, they changed the way I see music, and I would even go as far as to say they changed my life. Plenty of other bands have emotion in their music, but none are anywhere near as raw, sincere or as easy to relate to as Korn. The song Daddy used to make me cry everytime I listened to it, and I'm not a very emotional person.

I'm cool with people not liking them, I just feel the need to defend them, so ignore all that if you want 😖
