Hmmm... Super trooper, Spartans aren't marines though... You could always be an ODST or "helljumper". They're better and tougher than normal marines, and almost nearly as strong and effective as the spartans. We cant have too many spartans because well...most are dead. Spartans are abducted from their homes at the age of six and undergo physical augmentations. They go right to the Navy.
As for the plot... go ahead and start thinking of one. I think we should start over all the way back to halo1... Halo2 is hectic with all the elites and humans making peace with each other.
The ship subtle redemtion (another ship like pillar of autumns have just fled the planet reach. They were hunted by the covenants and was now on their way out of there.
The covenants was not far away, starting the hunt.
(I guess we makes new characters or keep the old ones now. I myself will be covenant elite. I know this was not an very advance plot but just wanted to get it started)

Im still my spartan from earlier. Shes wears Mark7 battle armor thats a dark grey(almost black), and wears no helmet. She was a part of the SPARTANIII project, and is the last known survivor of her kind to make it off of reach.

He used to guard regret, but has been sent to forfill the journey. He totaly rely on his brute strenght and his odd tactics on the field. His armor grants him greatly improved plasma shield, but have reducec durability when the shield is gone.
