Well, he is still a gentlemen and gentlemen should never have the "Mr." edited out of his name, despite what he may have done. But thats just me. Others may not share my opinion.

Its just polite to refer a superior (one older of age than oneself) as a "Mr." or "Miss" or "Mrs." or "Dr.," or sometimes even by his/her military rank. Its possible the individual whom carriers such a title requests being called something else, usually something more simple, or something to make calling him/her more personal than professional, which one should title him/her according to that.
