At the time you let them direct Episode 5 and 6, you were very happy with it. Why have you suddenly changed your mind, George? Maybe you are going to think that way about the prequel trilogy too after a few years. By the way, I don't think the classics look bad anyway. You knew what you could do and what you couldn't do with the special effects because of that you couldn't include Coruscant in Episode 6. You shouldn't complain about the classics so much and just let it be. Don't stress so much for nothing, it is really unhealthy. Sure there can always be improvement, but you made these movies and shouldn't worry to much about it anymore. You should move on.
George Lucas: I defy you to find an interview where I ever say I was happy with the way The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi turned out. I’ve never been happy with them. That is why I keep making so many changes to them. My legacy depends on how people receive these films hundreds of years from now. I don’t want the people of the future laughing at me because of how primitive the special effects look in the old films. I really do care what people in the future are going to think of me.
It would be nice to be able to get my hands on a working time machine so that I could go back and direct all the Star Wars films myself. That is the only thing that would truly make me happy. As it stands now, I have to live everyday knowing that I ruined The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi by not directing them when I had the chance. I just hope the fans can forgive me.

Lucas is very positive of the work Irvin Kershner. He says it many times in the DVD commentary for The Empire Strikes Back. Mickey is not a Star Wars fan, he just does this to bug us. I am just wondering who is backing him financially for this operation of evil. There is no way he could do this alone. Didn't someone say his Dad is a big lawyer?

I think he is, had to bail good aul Mickey out of a few tight situations, and I'm positive that he is a fan, look through his older pages.
