Yes, "suilaid" literally means "greetings" (from "suil[ann]a-" = "to greet" -> "suilad" = "greeting"😉 ... so it's rather used for goodbyes, but as there isn't much difference between the meaning of "hello" and "greetings", suilaid is often translated as the first 😄
