Why isn't March the first month of the year?

I only ask because if Sept is seven in Latin I think, then why is September the 9th month and not the seventh: same goes for all the months after it???

The year used to start at a different time,
hence all the names up from september, OCTober, NOVember, DECember etc;
January is Janu's month (god of gates)
February Februa's month (festival of purification)
March Mars' month, god of the war; March was the original beginning of the year and time for the resumption of war
April - Aphrodite's month (the roman venus), goddess of love
May - Maia's month, Maia being italian goddess of spring
June... Iuno's month, the wife (and sister 😛) of Iupiter, goddess of wedding...
July and August are dedicated to Julius and Augustus; Julius because he reformed the calendar at that time and Augustus because he completed the calendary reform
