I always asked if I could do what I wanted to do like giving a hug or giving a kiss and so forth one thing led to another but in the end (after a few weeks) it was Storm who took it to french kissing.
Personaly I think asking is the best option, true it aint all that romantic on the other hand you don't come across as being pushy.
