I work in mysterious ways
In addition to my other posts in this thread, I think an overview of the three films would be:
Film 1: It was classic English humour, dark but whimsical, and had a very ambient atmopheric feel to it. The scenes, even though not real, didn't look CGI'ed, they had an authentic feel to them - a good mix of warmth, mystery, fear and characters. This was the movie that got everyone.
Film 2: I always thought they ruined this one by 'Hollywoodising' it and designing it as a blockbuster action film and the quality seemed lacking as the mystery was played down to the effects. This film took alittle getting used to but after a while I realised it was ok because no matter how much action there was there was still alot of good chracter portrayal even though it was easy to tell that the actors/tresses found it difficult to act in front of nothing e.g. characters like Dobby, Fawkes, the spider and the basilisk were all added in later - but then again that would be hard for anybody whose not a long time thespian.
Film 3: This is another one we have to get used to I think and even though my cinema experience of it was horrendous and ruined by so many other factors that really pissed me off, looking at the film itself in retrospect, it wasn't really that bad. For all the things that let it down there were highlights too. I agree that there weren't many funny moments but there wasn't meant to be and if they made it anymore funny they would be betraying the story even more - and there were good scenes but because of the rapid pace of the movie you really have to think about it more to remember them on their own e.g. the Night Bus was good fun but short lived and even though there was alot of hype about it before, it was hardly noticed in the film because everything else. Alfonso really should have let the film be longer, gotten rid of that experimental music and bring back the old orchestra, not taken them out of uniform, and not missed out key plot points as well as not just cutting from one scene to another. It's obvious he wanted to show that he's not Chris Columbus and hence make it different but quite frankly, we don't care about what you want Alfonso and how you want to known as a different director, we want good films that stay true to the books as much as possible and actually make sense, even if they are mysteries. The one thing he did great at was the theme, it was meant to be darker and colder and he achieved that.
Damn lol 😮 all that said - I really hope he learns from this film and does justice to GOF and I also hope they've made good casting decisions with all the new roles coming up!
