What Is The Meaning Of Life?

Started by The Omega52 pages

The meaning of life – from a scientific point of view – is nothing more interesting that to create low-entropy in the atmosphere.
For a species the meaning of life is just biological - to procreate, to have off-spring which then in turn has offspring and so on in an endless circle.

Obviously – for a self-conscious species as this ape homo sapiens – that is FAR from enough.
We don’t just do what our parents or ancestors did, get born, learn skills, do as they did and die. We can, from generation to generation, do something completely different, acquire skills and knowledges our parents didn’t have, and choose to live a completely different lifestyle.

But there IS no higher meaning to life – which is essentially what this thread asks.
Life is what we make of it.

Arachnoidfreak even brought out Ochams Razor: “Don't look for a complicated answer when a simple one will do.”

I cant understand why people care about what the meaning of life is! Surely knowing the answer wont actually change who you are or how you live so why spend your time worrying about something so meaningless?

This, in a sense, summarizes all other questions asked. It is usually understood as: "What are the highest values, the Supreme Goals which I should try to achieve?". We stress that every human being must freely set those goals for himself or herself. The Supreme Goal which we choose derives logically from our cybernetic world view: to make a constructive contribution to the evolution of humanity, in order to maximize our long-term chances of survival (immortality). In essence, the 'meaning of life' is to increase evolutionary fitness. Do you agree?

we fight.
we die.

that is the meaning of life. to fight and to die.

The idea that life is facing conflict is how many people find purpose to thier day to day life, but I disagree that that is the purpose of life. The purpose of life is to find peace. You may find peace by confronting things head on, to engage in conflict... but the goal is not to fight and to die, your goal is to fight and overcome. You eventually want to find something. That something is comfort. You want to be quiet... this doesnt mean to need to be in a quiet place only that your thoughts may be clear and focused and your mind at peace. The purpose of life is to find peace in your life, even if that happens to be in the middle of conflict.

It's a Monte Python movie of course.

...... ESP your a waste of space.

Life

The meining of life is to reproduce did you know that

😱 'Every sperm is sacred!' - Monty Python's Meaning of Life.

What do you use to carve yourself to bits? Just a query 🙂

reminds me of The Cestus Deception...
The clone captain says their meaning is usefull because they know what they are here for: to fight and die 😐

on the other hand:

"The Meaning of Life is there is none"
from a song of The Bloodhound gang on the CD 'Hooray For Boobies'

I think he may have a point though... not the "grrr we fight! we die!" kind of thing that he comes off as, but maybe he is onto something...

I dunno... I already responded to that comment, My brain is tired and I'm going to go take a nap...

Quick note, Carnival is a chick 😄 And what point would it be other than the 'Grrr!' option?

reprodice my ass there has to be a reason plants make air animals make carbon dioxide for the trees humans do to but even if we werent here the animals would produce enough carbon dioxide for plants to live but if animals weren't here there wouldn't be enough everything has a purpose and its not just reproduction

*bumpity bump*

Like I said before:

I believe the meaning of life in a nutshell is to teach and pass on what WE learn to ANY members of the younger generation so they can learn some of the things we did without half the hassle. Maybe that way a better world will dawn. Instead of survival of the fittest, helping out fellow man to reach a level akin to us. But in this world some people just don't:

A) Deserve that.

B) Want that.

-AC

C) Understand that

Why does there have to be a meaning to life? How about just live. If there were a single purpose for humanity to fullfill through out our existence, i am sure we would know it instictively, like the bee's know instictively to pollinate followers. I believe we all have the ability to create our own individual meanings to our existence.

Why does there have to be a meaning to life? How about just live
indeed

We've been through this so many times, why didn't you let it die AF???? The point of life is to live. Period. And those who say the point of life is to die are ridiculous, that's the point of death. Duh 🙄
