The Mars Volta...

Frances the Mute....is amazing

The whole album really lived up to DITC I thought. Personally, I think Cassandra Geminni and L'via L'viaquez are the best tracks...followed by Cygnus....Vismund Cygnus, The Widow and lastly (but not least...well, maybe in this case but it's still good!) Miranda That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore. I only listened to FTM a few times though, I might change my mind after a while...

It's probably a grower. It has some great parts but I prefer De-Loused.

The Mars Volta is awesome (thank you AC for getting me to listen to them).

I found myself singing along to The Widow the other day in the car at the top of my lungs 😆 I love that song.

At this point, I also prefer De-Loused. It's just hard to compare the two since they are so different. TMV could have easily made another album that sounded like De-Loused, but they didn't. That's one of the reasons why I really liked FTM.

I need to buy/download the new one

I don't equate different to better though.

The fact that they ****ed up the tracklisting to please their record label was a bit annoying.

However, it's a good album.

At 12:00 onward in Miranda, That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore: A. Vade Mecum...you can hear bits of Quarantined. Which was an At The Drive-In song.

Saying that, the tracklisting/titles were messed up, so maybe that song for me isn't the same for you.

I prefer FtM to the debut.

DITC isnt the debut...they released an Ep that sounded more like ATDI than really what TMV has come to sound like. i also prefer DITC but im sure that FTM will grow on me.

Horribly overrated album. They're talented musicians, and at first the technical wizardry makes an illution that the album is tight, full of surprises and joys. At second, and repeated, listenings, it becomes painfully aware that the album is a homogenous stream of wankery, unlike the first album they've forgotten to write good melodies, instead it's pointless, boring and quickly forgotten.

If you buy an album involving Cedric Bixler and/or Omar Rodriguez-Lopez while expecting it not to be pretentious, you're buying the wrong album.

i hope its a grower, cos only song i like atm is The Widow... yea i know its not 'cool' to like an albums single, but i honestly think its the best song atm 😬

I arranged the tracklisting because it was wrong. So my titles might be different to yours. I like the Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus tracks.

On first listening I was captivated with the first few words of Miranda; 5 mins of building, and then that rather beautifully haunting "I've always wanted..."

😑 I think my tracklisting is right:
Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus
The Widow
L'Via L'Viaquez
Miranda, That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore
Cassandra Gemini

The tracklisting I've got (and it's the most fitting one) was arranged by ear and lyric/song title connection based off TheComatorium.com:

Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus: A. Sarcophagi.
Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus: B. Umbilical Syllables.
The Widow.
L'Via L'Viaquez.
Miranda, That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore: A. Vade Mecum.
Miranda, That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore: B. Pisacis (Phra-men-ma).
Miranda, That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore: C. Con Safo.
Cassandra Geminni: A. Tarantism.
Cassandra Geminni: B. Plant a Nail in the Naval Stream.
Cassandra Geminni: C. Faminepulse.
Cassandra Geminni: D. Multiple Spouse Wounds.
Cassandra Geminni: E. Sarcophagi.

People claim that there is only ONE Miranda track and that the other two are par of Cassandra Geminni, they're not. I tried it and the tracks just don't blend.

-AC

I downloaded them as five tracks.
Miranda has three different sounding sections, instrumentals either side of the song. Then there's the half hour Cassandra Gemini.

i have 7tracks lol 😬

You didn't buy the album, Furry? You downloaded it? Why not buy it?

Bit shitty.

-AC

Didn't ask for the Spanish Inquisition... don't go all moral on me!

For a start I live in the middle of nowhere, and I'd have to go to Bristol to buy it, or order on the internet - course I wanted to hear it ASAP
Will buy eventually.. but you say the order is buggered?

I think downloading albums is shit, but then I don't like ripping off the bands I like.
