Quick Guide To Securing Your Computer

Here's a quick guide to removing spyware/viruses and safely securing your PC.

First of all, get an anti-virus program: http://free.grisoft.com/

Then go to: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and make sure you have all the critical updates.

Thirdly go here: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
and install the anti-spyware software from Microsoft.

And finally, to stop ALL worms dead in their track and to make yourself instantly immunable, install the built-in firewall: http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/windowsxp/firewall.asp

OR get a very good (free) firewall here: http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp

You can do a free check online check of your computer, ironically it is courtesy of Microsoft(!), here: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/

what is a firewall?

it's a thingie that makes sure no connection in gets in unnoticed (against hackers) and also out if you don't agree with it

I used AdAware spyware however it didnt remove them all, so i downloaded Bazooka. Its excellent at detecting regestry kays, but you have to remove them all manualy.

that's not very hard

I never said it was, but doesnt do it automaticly like Search and Destroy and AdAware.
