Changes & Why

Ya all know what I mean, many changes in the films compared to the book, why did PJ change all of this?

my examples (from reading the thread and whatnot) would be such as

Haldir going to Helms Deep and actually dying,

Sam & Frodo going to Osgiliath

Shelob being in the ROTK and not TTT,

Sorry if this thread(s) have been started before but I was just needing a simple explanation of "why"

Yea, i totally agree. jhe totally got the whoel time span in the wrong books thing completely rong. also, t annoyed me the other day, my frends sed its stupid, in the book Haldir dont go 2 helms deep, i cant believ they got the book so wrong!

WTF!!! I tell ya thsi Movie COULD end some peoples veiw of LOTR being a Popular NOVEL!

P.S I think PJ did an ace job dont get me wrong! BEST MOVIE IN CINEMA HISTORY!

yep, best movies ever, close competition with Star wars which is still totally awesome

Discos - actually looked for his Star Wars videos this morning and had no such luck in finding them 🙁

i really didnt mind most of the changes, just in my opinion the one i didnt like at first was faramir but then after seeing the EE it makes him seem nicer and more of a reason to take the ring, and i liked having haldir at helms deep cause i like the elves 😄

Watch TTT:EE - Phillipa Boyens (I think) explains lots of these questions.🙂

erm....

aragorn not giving his speech as the sun rises at the hornburg....like he thinks they are all going to be like affected by the sun, but they arent

uuhh, some reasons:

1. cool factor - (Elves going to Helm's Deep, Warg Attack etc)
2. time factor - (cutting the Lothlorien orc chase scene in FOTR, The Houses of Healing, Shelob in ROTK, etc,)
3. dramatic reasons - (changing Faramir's personality, etc., Sam and Frodo being caught and interrogated with too much tension)
4. character development - (extended Arwen role, Pippin singing at Denethor's halls, etc.)
5. reduce the confusion - (for the average movie-goers, they wouldn't "get" the so many characters so they had to cut Glorfindel, Prince Imrahil, etc. and gave their role to other characters who could do the job and needs more development)

Those are what I could think of off the top of my head. 😉

Well said shadowy! *thumbs up*

Yes, these were all changes made as part of the fact that literally translating the book to film would have made for a poorer experience. These differences improved the story as a FILM.

i think pj said that shelob was in rotk not only for time reasons but because of the sequence, frodo is entering shelob's tunnel while osgiliath is being attacked
as shadowy said, probably so the average movie goer would understand everything, as it is i had to explain some things to my friends

if it had been word for word /shot for shot, the films would have been musicals!

LOL 😆

i didn't like to much how frodo told sam to stay behind when he went into shelob's lair....and i already made a thread about it...probably should have put it in here...

the shelobs aparition in ROTK and not in TTT was for time facts

ok, cheers for Shadowy for clearing most of that up,

lol most of it would have been signing and thats true. Too much rhyme and "ye olde english" words arise in the books which made me change some aspects in the book to save me time
