Beyond the Veil; Sirius's side of the story
I fell. And fell and fell. And I was in so much pain . And I thought I was going to die. I really wanted to die.
Then I heard a scream.
“Sirius!!!”
Oh no. Harry. I wasn’t allowed to die. I had to get out of here. Somehow I had to get out of here.
“She killed Sirius!!! I’ll kill her!!!”, Harry yelled. But his voice was growing fainter. Then I hit the ground. I was winded. Then suddenly I heard a voice I’d thought I’d never hear again.
“Sirius?”
But how did this voice know it was me? I was so dark!
“Sirius?”, the voice said again. “Is that you?”
“J-James?” I couldn’t believe it.
“Yes!”, the voice whispered. “But what are you doing here, by Merlin? I mean, Merlin, I couldn’t wait, but not this early! By Merlin, what happened?”
“I… Am I dead? I can’t be dead!”, I said, without waiting for an answer.
“What happened? What the Devil happened, Sirius?!”
Suddenly another voice joined us.
“James? S-Sirius!?
“Lily?”, I still couldn’t believe it.
“Lily, come here”, James said quietly. “Sirius is here, but he hasn’t told me what happened.”
“Sirius, please tell me what happened”, said Lily’s voice. She had always been able to make me do things, only by the power of her voice.
“Well, what do you want to know?”, I asked. And didn’t even pause to think that I was here in this weird place, in the dark, talking to my dead friends.
“We’ve got time”, Lily said, and it almost sounded like she was smiling faintly. “Tell us what happened, after our…deaths.”
So I told them everything. About how Peter betrayed them. About my imprisonment, about how I broke out. And about how I’d found Harry.
“I told him he could live with me, and he said yes strait away”, I said.
The silence that followed these words confused me at first. I thought at first that they weren’t there anymore.
But then it hit me so hard I felt like I would keel over backwards. It hit me that I was talking to Harry’s parents.
And it hit me that they were dead. And I was dead. And Harry was alive, and had nobody.
Yes, he’s got Remus, said a little voice in my head.
Remus. Now the Mauraderfriendship was destroyed forever. And back then we had thought it would last forever. Them I started to cry. Silently, but Lily and James noticed anyway.
“Sirius, I know it’s hard. Sometimes I thought I was going to explode. I didn’t know how I was going to survive it. I still don’t know how I did”, Lily said softly. I sniffed.
“Can’t we go anywhere were it’s lighter?”, I asked.
James laughed sadly.
“Sirius, there is no light here.”
But Lily took my hand. “Come.”
She lead me through the dark. It seemed like no time had passed since I’d arrived. Wherever I was.
I don’t know how long she lead my through the dark like that. James followed behind us.
And then it got lighter.
