“NO! NO PLEASE! PLEASE! NOT HIM! NOT JOSH!”
*BANG*BANG*
“NOOOOOOO!!”
Kelly had tried not to cry, but thinking of his last moments, cowering in an alley, so helpless and scared, she just broke down. Ana put her arm around her and tried to comfort her.
They were at josh’s funeral. His mum and dad were sitting in front of Kelly and ana, both of them misty eyed. Josh had died 2 weeks ago, and at least three times a day Kelly was reminded vividly of his death.
She had a small wound on her arm where one of the bullets had grazed her arm. The murderer had tried to kill her as well, but missed and ran out of bullets. Everyday she thought “why not me? Why didn’t I die in his place?” it was only after her and ana had had a long, emotional talk that she had stopped trying to commit suicide.
After the funeral, she said a quick “I’m sorry” to josh’s mum and dad and ran out of the church. Ana ran after her. Kelly was in hysterics. She was crying her eyes out and there was nothing ana could do about it.
“listen! Listen to me Kelly! There was nothing anyone could have done. The doctors tried their hardest to save him.”
Kelly had been josh’s best friend. They had lived together and shared everything. Now she was in the process of moving into ana’s house.
When ana had finally got her home, Kelly said goodnight and headed to her room. When she got there she started frantically searching theough her bags, until she found what she was looking for. A sharp bread knife, wrapped in cotton wool and bubble wrap. She tore it off and held the blade against her skin, but stopped. she couldn’t do that to ana. Seeing the dead body of her best friend had driven her to suicide, and the last thing she wanted to do was be responsible for the deaths of two of her friends. She quickly scribbled a note and slipped it under anas door before running out of the house. She ran to foster park, down the road from the house. There was a group of guys hanging around, but she ignored them, hiding the knife up the sleeve of her hoodie. She hid behind a tree and bit her lip. She got on her knees and said a quick prayer before taking her hoodie off. She dragged the blade from her wrist to her elbow.
“OOOOOOOOWWW!!” she shouted, not being able to control herself.
“hey, hey what’re you doing? Get away from her!” the hooded figure stood up, and the girl he was threatening ran away crying.
“josh, please. just leave him.”
“Kelly stay back.”
“no! josh just leave it!!”
the man in the hood punched josh to the floor, before kicking him in the stomach, face and ribs.
“what the **** are you doing? Leave him alone!” Kelly pushed the man.
“Kelly….no” josh said slowly. He was obviously in pain. The hooded man slapped her to the floor and pulled out a gun.
“what are you doing with that? Put it away…please put it away!”
she stood up, only to be pushed down again. She heard the sound of a gun being cocked and panicked.
“No! whatever you’re thinking of doing, please don’t!”
now the gun was pointed at josh.
“NO! NO PLEASE! PLEASE NOT HIM! NOT JOSH!”
josh flashed her a look of pure helplessness. At that moment she heard two gun shots, and saw josh’s limp body lying in a heap.
“NOOOOOO!” she ran after the man, not caring what happened to her. she just wanted to make him feel as much pain as possible. She felt a searing pain in her arm and collapsed, screaming in anger and despair.
