Well in COS Harry also found out about the dark things in the Malfoy mannor. So that could be it too. Just a thought.

My idea when the howler said "remember my last" I thought it ment remeber his last letter

yea in the fifth book dumbledore explains that it meant remember the note that was sent went harry arrived on the doorstep.
